There are a couple of good burrito places in Berkeley, but my favorite by far is Cancun. They have really fresh ingredients, tasty meats (as opposed to to dry and chewy at some places), and about 15 different kinds of salsa, ranging from mango to pumpkin.
Today, I had a regular chicken burrito, which is cubes of grilled, juicy chicken with pinto beans, cheese, and tomato salsa. It’s really filling because they give you a lot of meat. If I’m feeling super hungry, then I get the super burrito, which is the regular burrito plus rice, guacamole, and sour cream.
The salsa bar alone is worth the trip. I guess I’m an old-fashioned girl — I always get at least one cup of the traditional salsa (pictured below). I love that it’s spicy, garlicky, and cilantro-y (ok, I’m just making up words now, but you know what I mean). I also got the cucumber salsa because it seemed like a summery choice, but it had a lot of jalapenos hiding amongst the cucumbers so it was a tad too spicy for my wimpy taste buds. My other favorites are the mango salsa and the salsa verde.
Here is my burrito before I devoured it in 20 minutes flat. That might not seem like a short amount of time, but I am usually an extremely slow eater.
I stopped halfway to take a photo of the filling. Sorry if it looks kinda gross, but it was delicious!
