Cuckoo for Lo Coco’s

If I’m craving hearty Italian food and willing to spend a little extra on dinner, I head to Lo Coco’s in North Berkeley.  They specialize in Sicilian cuisine, which translates into great pizzas and simple, yet rich pasta dishes.

To start, Lo Coco’s serves complimentary flat bread with every entree.  Don’t let their looks deceive you; beneath their ordinary appearance lies the most delicious bread.  Crusty and chewy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, with just enough seasoning (salt, olive oil) to make things interesting.

The flatbread is to DIE for.

The thing with the pasta dishes at Lo Coco’s is that they aren’t particularly intricate.  But the sauce… you can tell that it’s been simmering all day in spices, and cooked down so it’s not watery.

Being a Sicilian restaurant, Lo Coco’s has many seafood dishes.  I ordered the linguini with clam sauce, and it was great.

What I didn’t get to take a picture of was their great pizzas, which we didn’t order but I highly recommend.  Also not pictured is their house wine, which for the bargain price of $12 for half carafe (about 3-4 glasses), is very drinkable and pairs well with the food.

  1. I ate you. Oops, I mean HATE. Hate you!

Because I had perfectly delicious tacos for dinner and Lo Coco’s makes my second and third stomachs writhe alive. They are so delicious. So delicious and romantical. And their cannoli? OMG OMG OMG.

God. Forget it. I can’t even move to SF anymore. This is absurd.

  2. You have to go back for the cannoli. I’ll go with you.

  3. @SBJ: Yes, my blog is actually a ploy to prevent you and M from moving across the Bay.

@thepeople: Definitely! I have never had their cannoli. Let’s go there on our next outing!
