Year of the Kitty

One year ago on this date, I welcomed a mixed blue point Himalayan cat into my life. I adopted him from a couple who, after graduating from UC Berkeley, were headed to cat-unfriendly places. Why they adopted a cat in their senior year of undergrad only to have to give the cat up 6 months later is crazy to me, but who am I to judge?

He was so freaked out his first night that he hid behind the toilet/trash can. I can see you kitty!!

Anyway, his name was Schmee and he was very cute. He was also extremely shy but since he was “trapped” into a corner, I was able to pet him and see that he wasn’t aggressive or mean. I decided to adopt him but a new name was in order. He was definitely NOT a “Schmee.” Being as pretty as he is, I went with the name Sasha. Fitting, huh?

One of my favorite photos of Sasha

He took a couple of weeks to get comfy, and his favorite hiding place initially was under the oven. How he managed to get under there, I haven’t a clue! Anyway, since then, we’ve grown on each other. He’s even become slightly braver with time. Recently, he has come out to greet company, as long as it’s a small group.

The most recent photo, all settled in at my new apartment.

Happy “anniversary” Sasha! ♥

  1. Happy Cat-iversary! Maybe next time I come visit he will say hi to me.

    • I bet he will come out if we hang out for a bit — while you eat your fish eyeballs, perhaps. Typical male behavior, he’s more likely to come and say hi if you’re being cool and indifferent.

  2. Although I’m about to sneeze just looking at his picture, I think he is absolutely beautiful. Happy Anniversary!

  3. Happy Anniversary, sweet Sasha! I love the kitty, even if he is a fuzzy shy-head who only flirts with me when I try and leave.

He should know that I have catnip now. Uh-huh!

  4. He really is just SO damned cute!

  5. Happy Anniversary together. Sash is so handsome. Look forward to more pics and stories of your adventures together!

  6. Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Sasha thanks you too! I agree — he is very adorable — that’s what keeps him out of trouble even when he does naughty things!
